Many Magento store leave the release notes in the root of their website. This is the fastest way to find out what version the site is running

Of course if you remove the file or change the permissions you will not find it.
Mage::getVersion() ?
ReplyDeleteThanks Luge, but if you don't have access to the source and can only access the site via a browser (i.e. public access) you can't exactly do Mage::getVersion() can you!
ReplyDeleteIf you can't access the source files, or admin / downloader, where version is mentioned, you are not allowed to find out version. I think it's right
ReplyDeleteIf you don't remove you release nots and you leave them readable then anyone can find out what version of Magento you are running

That's not a great way. Such files like http://rooja.com/RELEASE_NOTES.txt just tell you:
ReplyDelete==== 1.5.1.0 ====
which doesn;t say what type the version is (Community/Enterprise/Professional).
Yet services like BuiltWith.com are able to guess, how?

Yes great way for non-techie..
ReplyDeleteThanks brent
