Many Magento store leave the release notes in the root of their website. This is the fastest way to find out what version the site is running
http://www.domain.com/RELEASE_NOTES.txt
Of course if you remove the file or change the permissions you will not find it.

Thanks Luge, but if you don't have access to the source and can only access the site via a browser (i.e. public access) you can't exactly do Mage::getVersion() can you!
ReplyDeleteIf you can't access the source files, or admin / downloader, where version is mentioned, you are not allowed to find out version. I think it's right

That's not a great way. Such files like http://rooja.com/RELEASE_NOTES.txt just tell you:
ReplyDelete==== 1.5.1.0 ====
which doesn;t say what type the version is (Community/Enterprise/Professional).
Yet services like BuiltWith.com are able to guess, how?
